Full Suspension Mountain Bikes
A mountain bike, or MTB, is a bicycle designed for off-road cycling on all types of challenging terrain, including dirt tracks, rocky paths, steep declines and jumps. Mountain bikes need to be able to withstand the punishing demands of off-road use and this has led to the development of the full suspension mountain bike, otherwise known as a dual suspension mountain bike.
A mountain bike with full suspension will have two shock absorbers, one for each wheel. The front wheel will typically have a shock absorber built into the front forks, while for the rear wheel there is usually a spring/shock absorber to soak up the bumps.
There are many varieties of mountain bike with full suspension, such as cross-country (XC), freeriders, downhill bikes, and a variety of track and slalom competitions. Each of these place different demands on the bike requiring different suspension designs to suit them.
